This is absolutely my favorite piece of sculpture. Up close and personal, it occurs almost as a living piece of art. It is, quite simply, exquisite. Thank you for reminding me of it. KTK
KTK--Oh, that's right--you saw this sculpture when you were visiting St. Peter's in Rome. I read where they have it behind glass. I guess some idiot disfigured Mary's face in the early 70's. I read that her face was absolutely flawless--I hope they were able to recreate that. JT
Jen D recently told me about touring M's workplace in Rome. She said there are chunks of partially carved marble lying around. I guess it looks like there are arms coming out of rocks.
Anyhow, M was to have said that the figures were already in the marble; he just took the rock off around them, and exposed them.
