Danish Pastry Apple Bars from Loretta Wiebe

Pastry:
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 t. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 egg yolk
(milk)

8-10 apples, peeled & sliced
1 c. sugar
1 t. cinnamon

1 egg white, beaten until frothy

Frosting:
1 c. powdered sugar
3-4 t. milk

Combine flour and salt. Cut in shortening & butter. Beat egg yolk in measuring cup and add milk to make 2/3 c. liquid. Mix well and stir into flour mixture. Roll half the dough into a 7"x12" rectangle. Fit into 1"x15 1/2"x10 1/2" baking pan. Sprinkle 1/3 c. sugar on dough. Top with apples. Combine remaining 2/3 c. sugar and cinnamon and cover apples.
Roll out remaining dough and place over top. Seal edges and cut slits in dough.
Beat egg white until frothy, brush on top of crust.
Bake at 375* for 50 minutes.
Make frosting and drizzle it on top of the pie.
